The hair products the Shine team couldn’t be without

We asked the Shine team to nominate their ultimate hair heroes- the products they swear by to help make every day, a good hair day. Read on to discover the must-haves they reach for time and time again.

Jonathan

Hair hero: Aveda Air Control Light Hold Hair Spray, £25

Air Control is one of my most used products. It gives lasting hold without weighing the hair down, and unlike a lot of hairsprays, it doesn’t leave any residue when you brush it out. Like all Aveda products, it smells fantastic, too. I use it after styling to give the hair some hold, smooth any flyaways and banish static.

Best for: Everyone! After styling, spray on a paddle brush and brush through the hair. Aveda’s wooden paddle brushes are ideal for smoothing hair during drying. They’re available in two sizes-  go for the smaller one if you have shorter hair.

Collette

Hair hero: Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil, £31

This lightweight oil is great for moisturising dry ends, controlling unruly hairlines and taming those fluffy baby hairs. It instantly adds shine and definition, leaving hair feeling manageable without weighing it down. You can use it on damp hair, but I love using it as a finishing product, applying to dry hair after styling.

Best for: This product is ideal for use on dry, frizzy or flyway hair. A little really does go a long way so you only need to use a couple of drops, which means the bottle lasts forever.

Jake

Hair hero: Aveda Nutriplenish Daily Moisturizing Treatment, £35

I really love using this product- it’s my absolute go-to. Infused with a superfood-rich blend of oils and butters, it’s a leave-in treatment that really nourishes the hair, leaving it super-hydrated and deliciously soft and smooth. Apply sparingly to towel-dried hair and twist into curls before drying.

Best for: It’s designed to be used for really thick, curly or dry hair. But if you only use a little, it gives all hair types a real hydration boost. I use it on pretty much all of my clients.

Franco

Hair hero: Aveda Invati Advanced Thickening Foam, £28.50

If you’re looking for an instant volume boost, this is the product for you. It lifts hair at the root and plumps up each strand for thicker, fuller looking hair. It really adds shine, too. Best of all, it’s weightless and doesn’t leave any build-up. Apply evenly to damp hair before blow drying.

Best for: I recommend this to any clients with fine or thinning hair who are looking to create all day volume that lasts.

Veronica

Hair hero: Aveda Texture Tonic, £24.50

This is Aveda’s answer to a sea salt spray. It creates touchable texture and definition that looks effortless, without leaving the hair feeling heavy. You can use it after tonging to create beachy waves, but I like to use it on damp hair. Flip the hair upside down and then spritz and scrunch into the hair. Leave it to air dry for a natural, tousled look, or twist the hair as you blow dry to create loose waves.

Best for: Fine hair that doesn’t hold shape for long.

This month we’ve mainly been…

Booking tickets for this year’s Brighton Festival (4th-26th May). With over 120 events taking place in venues all over the city, from book talks and writing workshops for children to theatre, dance, visual arts and live music events, there’s definitely something for everyone.

If live comedy is more your thing, you should definitely check out the stellar line up for the Brighton Comedy Garden (3rd-7th July). A host of comedians including Ross Noble, Sara Pascoe, Dara O’Briain and Taskmaster favourite Sam Campbell will be descending on Preston Park over five nights, with street food and bars a plenty too.

Eating Brighton’s original and best falafel, courtesy of our neighbours around the corner on Sydney Street, We Love Falafel. With an utterly delicious fresh vegetarian and vegan menu, generously sized portions and reasonable price tags, it’s a Shine lunchtime staple. If you haven’t discovered this place yet, you’re in for a treat.

Watching the second series of the brilliantly tense Blue Lights on BBC One and iPlayer. And, if we’re honest, binging Married at First Sight Australia on E4 (sorry, not sorry).

Book your next appointment with us online, by email or over the phone. Hope to see you soon!
