Beauty and the Beach: Summer Holiday Hair Care
After a soggy start, summer is finally here- hopefully to stay! If you’re going away on holiday this summer here are a couple of tips for looking after your mane in the heat and ensuring it stays looking and feeling strong and healthy.
Put the heat stylers down
While the right products can help protect and treat your hair against heat damage nothing can reverse it. So while you’re on holiday leave your hair to air-dry in the sun when you can and why not just embrace your hair’s natural texture. It does your hair the world of good to give it a break from styling every so often. Plus, less time blow-drying, more time pool-lounging. Seems like a fair swap to us. Cocktail, anyone?
Think SPF- for you hair
You slather your skin in suncream before you hit the beach (we hope), but what about your hair? Exposure to UVA and UVB rays can leave your hair discoloured, brittle and dry. We swear by Aveda’s Sun Care Protective Hair Veil, £22.50, to prevent you bringing straw-like hair back home with you. Suitable for all hair types, it’s a lightweight, water-resistant protective UV mist that will help minimise dryness and damage. Simply spray evenly on dry or damp hair before you go in the sun and reapply during the day and after swimming. An intensive hair mask is another holiday beauty essential. The humble hair clip is well and truly back
If Instagram is anything to go by everyone is channelling the style of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Margot from The Royal Tenenbaums this season, and those barrettes. Whether you go understated or all out, a hair clip is your fail-safe way to look chic on your travels- and they’re perfect for smoothing down post pool day hair too. We love these handmade resin clips, £6.95, from Tegen Accessories on Meetng House Lane, also available online.
