New Season Style Tips to Beat the Back to School Blues

Well, what a summer! But as with all good things, it must come back to an end. And so here we are- suddenly it’s mid-September, with the nights drawing in and the shops full of autumnal hues and warmer layers.

But no need to get too down, because while the temperatures may have taken a turn and the rosé may no longer be flowing, there is still so much to love about Autumn. So, in true ‘back to school’ spirit, here’s a few ways to shake up your look and feel great, ready for a brand new season.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

Still think animal print only belongs in the wardrobes of Kat Slater and Bet Lynch? Well, you’re wrong. It’s a massive trend this season and is literally everywhere. And believe us when we say anyone can pull it off-it’s just about how you wear it. The key is to steer well clear of anything tight or short (why hello, Kat) and if in doubt, dress it down. A loose flowing leopard print midi dress (we love this one from & Other Stories) will fast become a wardrobe staple, worn with either tan ankle boots or white trainers and layered up with a leather jacket. Or you can play it safe with a pair of leopard print flats teamed with jeans and a neutral palette. But when it comes to leopard print, there’s no such thing as too much in our book.

COLOUR REFRESH

Thanks to a few months of pretty much wall-to-wall sunshine your hair colour probably looks quite different to the one you walked out of Shine with at the start of the summer. This makes Autumn a great time to flirt with a new shade and experiment, without having to take your hair through a colour stripping process. Warm, earthy tones are popular at this time of year and are really flattering to winter skin; think chestnut browns, vibrant coppers and rich buttery caramels. We would usually recommend using a semi-permanent colour, which is an easy (and cost-effective) way to try something a bit different without the long-term commitment. The colour can be applied all over, or added in carefully placed slices to break up your hair and create contrast between shades. Your stylist will be happy to discuss any ideas and suggest what will work best on your hair, so pop in any time to have a chat, or arrange a consultation.

INDULGE IN SOME TLC

Sun, salt water, swimming, humidity: all that summer holiday fun can take its toll on your hair, leaving it brittle and damaged. So even if you’re not looking to change your style now is still a great time for a trim; getting rid of dry, split ends and leaving your hair looking fuller and healthier. And remember, even if you’re trying to grow your hair, trimming the ends is still important to prevent any damage travelling up the hair shaft. We recommend you maintain your hair’s health throughout the year by having a trim around every 8-12 weeks. And in between salon visits treat your locks to a deep conditioning treatment every week at home. We love Aveda’s Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment

3 things worth staying in for this month

September signals the return of the reality TV big guns doing battle on Saturday night. But if neither sequins or Mr.Cowell’s high waistlines do it for you, there’s still lots of other good stuff to be curling up in front of;

Bodyguard If you’re one of the handful of people in the country still not watching this sexy political thriller, it’s time to catch up. Full of twists and Bourne style intensity, there’s a reason why it’s pulling in the BBC’s highest viewing figures for a new drama in over a decade. Classy stuff.

Killing Eve From the creator of the fabulously dark comedy Fleabag and with a stellar female-strong cast, we can’t wait for this slick new spy thriller which has already been recommissioned for a second series after rave reviews when it aired earlier in the year in the US. Starts on BBC1 on 15th September.

Ozark The much-anticipated second series of this dark crime drama is now on Netflix. If you haven’t watched the first series yet, it follows dad and apparent ‘everyman’ Marty Bryde (brilliantly played by Jason Bateman) navigate increasingly murky waters as he attempts to pull off an ambitious money laundering scheme for a ruthless drug cartel. Let’s just say things don’t quite go to plan. Think Breaking Bad, but better.
