5 ways to make 2023 a very happy new year

Let’s be honest, by this point in January most New Year’s resolutions are all but a distant memory. But what if January was less about setting yourself up to fail with unachievable goals and more about setting some positive intentions for the year ahead? None of the pressure (no one needs more of that, especially at this time of year), just the chance to think about some things you want to do, or work towards over time. Here are just some of the ways you could make this year a happy one. How many will you tick off?

Shop local

Make 2023 the year you break up with Amazon and spend more of your hard-earned cash locally instead. Some of our favourite independents include Papersmiths for utterly dreamy stationery, Utility for retro homewares and Goldsboro Books for unique books and really knowledgable staff. And if you’re into sustainable fashion, make a trip to Preloved of Brighton in Fiveways for some amazing second-hand designer finds.

Eat green

Whether you’ve been giving Veganuary a shot this month or just keen to give your diet a bit of an overhaul, we could all do with eating a bit more of the green stuff. Luckily for us, Brighton is bursting with vegan-friendly eateries. Our lovely stylist Collette (who also just happens to be a qualified nutritionist) loves YouJuice for their all day brunches and cleanse programmes. The Roundhill Pub is another of her favourites, serving up delicious plant-based dishes and vegan wine.

Give your hair a health boost

No matter your hair type or texture, it will benefit from a regular moisture injection to smooth and repair, and promote healthier growth. Aveda’s Botanical Repair Strengthening Leave-in Treatment, £31.50 for 100ml, is a Shine favourite. It can be used by anyone to strengthen, de-frizz and protect against heat styling- and smells amazing, too. Just apply to damp hair after shampooing and style as usual. To promote healthier hair from the inside out, Collette recommends adding some spirulina powder to your daily smoothie. Rich in antioxidants and plant-based protein, it will target any nutritional deficiencies that may cause weak, dry or slow-growing hair.

Waste less

Never underestimate the difference that small changes can make. Cut down on your plastic usage by swapping your regular shampoo for one of our award-winning Shine shampoo bars. One bar lasts four times longer than a standard sized plastic bottle of liquid shampoo, and comes in a handy reusable tin, with refill bars available too. Available to buy in the salon or online. Use the code FREESHIP for free UK delivery on orders over £16.

Change things up

Fancy a new look for the new year? Whether you’re after a trend-led style update, colour refresh or a complete reshape, our talented team are here to help. We use Aveda colour, which is naturally derived and vegan-friendly. Because it contains organic plant oils it’s super kind to all hair types, leaving hair in better condition and full of glossy shine. It’s also fully customisable, so we can create a unique look just for you, from all over colour or highlights to balayage and glossing treatments. Why not book a free style or colour consultation with your stylist to discuss some ideas and get some expert advice on what will work for you and your hair.
